EVERYONE is planning to build on last year’s success.  Beating Willowridge by 30 plus points is one for the record books!!  And don’t forget the Bulldogs bested the eventual District Zone Champ Bush in an Epic Defensive battle.

The Bulldogs will be bigger and faster at many positions.  Austin’s offense is stocked with potential from the break away speed at the running back position namely Vic Enwere, and the wide receiver position is seven deep.  Many lettermen return for the offense including the line and at quarterback.   The offense is designed to keep the opponent on its heels by executing a quick pace and will probably run and average of 30% more plays per game than last year.  The emphasis this year is on execution.  With a year under their belts in Coach  Schreiber and Coach Bourne’s system, the team will see a great more degree of execution.  On defense Austin received plenty of publicity at the District level for its outstanding linebackers which will rival any team in the district.  Returning lettermen Josh Rahman and Trevor Myklebust will be dishing out the hits on every play.  It will be very entertaining way to spend a few hours on Friday nights.  The schedule will be posted soon on the Austin Booster Club’s website >>> HERE

The kids and coaches are putting in tremendous hours of effort.  Spring practice is ongoing now.   Everyday the players and coaches are practicing in the heat and humidity just to get ready for fall.  They are doing their part.  I invite all to come out and watch the fall games and do our part.

For the fall games:  come early…stay late…be loud…WEAR BLACK.  Let’s make our home field a nightmare for the opponents.

The nomination’s committee for the AHS Athletic Booster Club would like to invite you to get involved for the 2012-2013 school year.  The Athletic Booster Club is an organization of parents, teachers and administrators who support all athletes at AHS in many ways. We are looking for strong, enthusiastic and hard working individuals to make our program a success.

All positions in the Booster Club are voted on each year.  As per the by-laws, if you are a current member of the booster club and in good standings, you are able to run for any position.

If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else to become part of the Athletic Booster Club, please send an email to cathygilbert@comcast.net, no later then Thursday April 12th.

Below you will see a list of positions and their job description.  If there is a name listed for that position,
it means that last year’s person will be running on the ballot for the position again. If any position has the word “OPEN” next to it, this means that last year’s person will not be returning or has served their tenure.

The election will take place at the monthly booster club meeting on Monday, May 7th and all members of the current booster club will be allowed to vote.

Board of Directors Positions must attend all meetings according to by-laws.
Officers

President– Will preside at all meetings of the BC; all meetings of the Board of Directors, will have general supervision over the affairs of the Booster Club.

Vice President-- the Vice President will substitute in all things for the President in the President’s absence or disability.

Secretary– Shall attend all meetings and keep minutes;  keeps all corporate records and papers and perform other duties as are incident of the position as directed by the BOD.

Treasurer– keeps full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements in the books and records; deposits all funds in the name and to the credit of the BC, disburse the funds of the BC upon authorization of the Board; present an accurate account of all transactions and a report on the financial condition of the BC at the annual meeting in May.  Will prepare the financial books for the audit and assist in preparing an annual budget to be approved by the board.

VP -Merchandise-- Responsible for ordering, selling and keeping inventory of AHS merchandise.

That being said, the AHS Orchestra is having their annual ONLINE AUCTION and wanted to share the rules as well as the items being auctioned off with all. Sugar Land native named Southland tennis player of week Beau Bernstein (Courtesy of Southland.org). Sugar Land native Beau Bernstein has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Bernstein, a UT Pan American senior went 6-0 record in singles and doubles play last week on the road. Bernstein picked up consecutive-set wins over Ronald Chidzikwe of Prairie View A&M, Marcelo Alecio of Bethany College and Marcin Marczewski of St. Mary’s.

In doubles play, Bernstein and partner Chetan Panditi recorded 8-0, 8-2 and 8-3 victories over their opponents. Bernstein’s six victories propelled the Broncs to three wins, one more than the team had all of last season.

Bernstein went to Fort Bend Austin High School.

Deer Park Freshman Tournament | Teru Ukita and Jacob Jeanson took 2nd in boys doubles. Shreyas Ganesh won consolation in boys singles. And in girls doubles Alexa Garcia and Sumayia Razak advanced to the semifinals.

Fort Bend Invitational | Colton Mack and Curtis Lock won the boys doubles title in the A division. Also taking home FIRST PLACE were the mixed doubles duo of Mark Li and Heather Bassett. Keshava Gali took 2nd place in boys singles. IN the B division of boys singles, Rajiv Chockalingam also took home 2nd place.

Clear Lake Tournament | Sundar Devakottai and Emily Ouyang took home 2nd place in mixed doubles at the tough Clear Lake varsity tennis tournament.
Aaron Reekie made it to the semifinals in Boys A singles, losing to Houston’s top singles player in a tough three-setter.

Alvin Tournament | The JV and Freshmen tennis team shined at the Alvin Tournament on Thursday. In boys doubles, Alex Luong and Joseph Lee took home the first place trophy. In girls singles, up and coming Heather Bassett finished second. And winning third place trophies were Sabih Khan and Poorvi Patel in mixed doubles, and Jacob Jeanson and Teru Ukita in Freshmen A doubles. And in Freshmen girls singles, Mindy Chau finished third as well.
