TENNIS: IKE Results & JV in Action

Bulldog_tennisCome out and be loud today as the Kempner Cougars come to the Dawg Pen! They hate us. We tolerate them. Now let’s beat’em.RECAP OF GALVESTON:

For the sixth straight year we finished 4th in the Remembering Ike Tournament.

The varsity Dawgs advanced to the semifinals with a 16-3 win over Nederland led by a 7-0 start in doubles. Captain Lauryn Reyes and partner Ria Devakottai led the charge with win at line 1 doubles. Devakottai also won her singles match.

But the competition got tougher as the days got hotter. We fell to Friendswood 10-8 in heartbreaking fashion. Sydni Rowland was up 7-3 in her super tiebreaker before injuring her ankle and retiring. We also lost a close line 2 doubles match in boys (8-6) and a super tiebreaker in line 3 boys. Friendswood went on to win the tournament easily beating Stratford 15-4. Meanwhile, a beat-up Dawgs team fell to Dawson 10-8 despite a big effort from Mythreyan Ganesh. The talented sophomore was undefeated for the tournament in both singles and doubles.

IN JV ACTION:

The Dawgs continued to roll, beating Travis 14-5 last Thursday at the Dawg Pen.

Arslan Badar and Akash Musale were dominant, winning lines 1 and 2 easily. On the girls side, Lisa Gardin got her first taste of victory winning her singles match 8-1.

Coach Love and the crew will travel to Kempner on Thursday.
